Woodland Statistics Released

The latest National statistics on woodland areas, planting and restocking have been released by the Forestry Commission. The report shows that woodland covers 13% of the UK land area (10% in England, 15% in Wales, 18% in Scotland and 8% in Northern Ireland). Total UK woodland area stands at 3.13 million hectares with 44% certified including the 0.87 million hectares of Forestry Commission and Forest Service land. During 2012-13 11,000 hectares of new woodland has been created, planted with mainly broadleaf trees with a further 13,000 hectares restocked after felling.  The full report can be found at http://www.forestry.gov.uk/forestry/INFD-986J7M
