Welsh TB Pilot Project

The results from a pilot project which has been running in parts of Wales aimed at helping farmers through a bovine TB breakdown are expected to be presented next month.  The pilot, which commenced last October, has been trialled in Anglesey, Wrexham, the West Wales Intensive Action Area, East Carmarthenshire, Gower and East Monmouthshire.  As part of the Cymorth TB initiative, private vets visited and advised those with breakdowns on farm biosecurity measures and best practice when buying in cattle.  The key question is what role can vets play in supporting cattle keepers and helping to manage future TB breakdowns.  The pilot has been monitored by AHVLA and Cardiff University.  Lessons learned are expected to be presented next month.
