The Future of Glastir

June 29, 2014 12:00 am

The Welsh Government has announced its future plans for Glastir.  The proposals outline the programmes available under the environmental scheme for the 2014-2020 funding period.  The key points are;

  • farmers will not be required to participate in Glastir Entry to be eligible to enter other Glastir schemes
  • online applications will be introduced through to 2016 when all applications will need to be completed online
  • the success of the Commons Development Officers will be built upon to encourage collaborative agreements within Glastir Advanced and the Glastir Habitat Network
  • a Sustainable Production Grant will be available to improve economic and environmental performance through capital investment across three themes; nutrient, energy and water efficiency (this replaces the Glastir Efficiency Grant)
  • a small woodland planting scheme will be launched to fund plantings smaller than those eligible for Glastir Woodland Creation.
  • a new Organic Farming Scheme will be introduced (see previous article).

A number of Glastir options have been removed or changed.  The full announcement can be seen at – http://wales.gov.uk/newsroom/environmentandcountryside/2014/140617glastir/?lang=en and this includes a link to further information.
