Supermarkets Could Be Fined January 30, 2015 12:00 am Measures that will give the Groceries Code Adjudicator (GCA) the power to fine supermarkets for breaching the GroceriesCode have been laid before Parliament. Fines of a maximum 1% of annual turnover could be imposed. The Code does not govern prices but does include provisions on terms of supply, timing of payments, marketing and promotional costs. The introduction of the measure is subject to the successful completion of Parliamentary process; including passage through the Joint Committee of Statutory Instruments and further debate in both the House of Commons and the House of Lords.
