Sugar Campaign and Prices

October 1, 2015 12:00 am

The four British Sugar factories opened for the 2015/16 beet campaign at the end of September and start of October.  Whilst the crop looks good, it is highly unlikely to hit the average of 79.8 adjusted tonnes per hectare yield seen from the 2014 crop; an average yield somewhere in the range 70-75 tonnes seems probable.  With continuing high stocks, British Sugar probably don’t want too much beet.  An announcement has been made on out-of-contract (‘C’) beet prices.  For the 2015 crop this will be just £5 per tonne (plus transport and late delivery bonuses).  For the 2016 crop it is forecast to improve to £15 per tonne (plus transport and bonuses).  The transport allowance for 2015 will be £5.43 per clean tonne, with a similar figure likely for 2016.
