Sugar beet May 24, 2013 12:00 am British Sugar and the NFU announced in March that a ‘completion bonus’ would be payable on thier 2013/14 (2013 crop) contract tonnage. An extra £1.50 per tonne would be paid at the end of the season on all CTE and ICE tonnage as long as growers fulfill their contracts. British Sugar has now announced a relaxation of the conditions meaning that the bonus will be payable even if the full contracted tonnage is not delivered. Meanwhile, the formula for setting the 2014 crop beet price is being run this month. The results will be announced at the Cereals Event. it seems unlikely that the formula is going to deliver the £30+ per tonne that many growers are looking for. This is the last year of the current pricing system.
