Scottish NVZ Action Programme

May 1, 2013 12:00 am

Following last year’s consultation, the Scottish NVZ Action Programme has been changed.  Most of the new rules, which have not been entirely welcomed by the industry, will come into force on the 15th May.  But the change to the rule which increases the livestock manure nitrogen efficiency standard values used in calculating available nitrogen will not commence until 1st January 2014.    Other changes include alterations in maximum nitrogen fertiliser amounts for certain crops as well as extending the closed period for some soils by 2 weeks until the 31st of January. However records will only need to be kept for 3 years, down from 5 years under current regulations.  Meanwhile during 2013 there will be a separate review of the NVZ boundaries.  More details can be found via – http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Publications/2012/03/4576
