Scottish Beef Support March 30, 2015 12:00 am Richard Lochhead, Scotland’s Rural Affairs Secretary, has announced a £45million beef support package under the Rural Development Programme. The package, subject to EU approval, will spend £40 million enabling beef farmers to collect genetic and herd management information. The aim is to provide a national livestock database and support for farmers to identify key actions to improve cow fertility, reduce disease and maximise forage management. The remaining £5 million will help expand the ScotEID system to intergrate with market and abattoir data. The move comes following recommendations in the Beef 2020 report (http://www.gov.scot/Resource/0045/00457906.pdf)
