Sainsbury’s £1m R&D fund September 13, 2013 12:00 am Supermarket giant, Sainsbury’s, has pledged £1 million to its UK farmers and growers in the form of research and development grants. The funds will be available for solutions to improve practices and processes across farming. This comes in addition to the £1.2 million handed out to 14 projects last year. The grants will be awarded in three categories: Improvement in animal, fish or plant health, nutrition and welfare. Development of agricultural solutions that deliver sustainable intensification while improving quality and securing resilient supply chains. Development of new products or processes that improve safety, quality, taste or freshness. Applications for the grants close on 18th October 2013 with the winners announced at Sainsbury’s annual farming conference on Friday 6th December.
