Review of Glastir Advanced

June 12, 2015 12:00 am

An independent review has been undertaken into the delivery of Glastir Advanced. The review, undertaken by Geoff Radley (consultant), Leuan Joyce (chair of Elan Valley Trust and Member of Welsh Upland Forum) and Arfon Williams (countryside manager with the RSPB) made 10 recommendations for improvements to the delivery of the scheme;

  • Improved resolution on some objective maps
  • Additions procedures to ensure objectives addressed are appropriate and managed sufficiently
  • More guidance, support and training for Contract Managers
  • Avoid excessive uniformity of management in upland and woodland habitats
  • Planning flood risk actions across on a catchment scale
  • Encourage more landscape scale and partnership working
  • Targeted mink trapping and grey squirrel control
  • Links with Sustainable Production Grants
  • Continued monitoring of benefits
  • More follow up visits and advice during the contract
