Private Landlords are required to register themselves and their properties with Rent Smart Wales by 23^rd November 2016.  In addition, the Housing Act (Wales) 2014 requires self-managing landlords and agents to undertake training and apply for a license.  The aim is to drive up standards in the rented sector.  Registration can be done online but a licensing application can take up to 8 weeks.  For more information and applications go to https://www.rentsmart.gov.wales/en/.  These new rules will cover farmers letting out farm cottages.  This will still be case even if the tenant is a farmworker on the holding.  In this circumstance, the farmer is perhaps more likely to be managing the letting themselves, and therefore may require a licence.
