The North York Moors National Park Authority has given consent to York Potash for a mine on the outskirts of Whitby.  The mine will produce polyhalite, a potash fertiliser.  York Potash estimates that the mine will provide more than 1,000 jobs and £1bn a year in national GDP generation once it is up and running.  It forecasts exports of £600m, rising to £1.2bn.
