Pig Price Reporting

February 6, 2014 12:00 am

In a blow to the industry, Cranswick has exited the Deadweight Average Pig Price (DAPP) reporting, removing up to30% of the pigs from the sample.  Two days later Karro also announced their departure.  Although Cranswick initially gave no reason for decision they have gone on to say that they wanted “greater clarity and transparency” in how pig prices were reports.  Despite the two exits BPEX remain confident that the remaining sample will remain representative and DAPP reporting will continue.  Discussions are ongoing on how to better reflect the prices paid for standard and premium pigs, as some in the industry have raised concerns that DAPP shows an inflated average price.  HG Blake, Cheale Meats, FA Gill, Tulip, Dunbia, Woodhead Bros and Lamberts will continue to report DAPP.
