Rothamstead Research and biotechnology firm Syngenta have joined forces on a multi-million pound partnership to develop a high yielding, environmentally sustainable wheat.  The partnership will focus on Rothamstead’s 20:20 Wheat programme which aims to increase wheat yields to 20 tonnes per hectare within 20 years.  Over the next 5 years the partnership will look at a range of tecnologies and approaches in areas such as crop genetics, crop protection, disease control and soil and root architecture.  However the partnership will not involve the development of any commercial GM varieties.
