December 9, 2014 12:00 am

The Scottish Government has posted three short videos on its website to guide farmers, crofters and agents through the introduction of its new on-line claims system called Rural Payments and Services.  The new system will replace Rural Payments Online and is due to be launched shortly.  The demonstration videos can be found at http://www.itscoming.ruralpayments.org/ .  The aim of thenew system is to make submitting an application or making a claim ‘clearer, simpler and smarter’.  Key elements include:

  • Up-to-date maps, including boundaries and features with a facility in the future to maintain maps
  • Clearer and better information and guidance
  • Customers and agents will be able to edit information including, address, bank account details, entitlements and changes to maps
  • Updates, notifications and correspondence from and to Rural Payments will be available.

There will be increased support in all of the local Area Offices to help farmers and crofters access the new system which will be rolled out in phases.  The aim is to launch the first part by the end of 2014 which will include improved guidance, online maps and upgraded customer service and support.  Customers will be able to register and create an account in January; this will then allow them to check their personal, business and land information.  The aim is then to introduce a new single online application for some of the schemes early in 2015.  Further online services will continue to added over the next couple of years.
