Milk Production October 28, 2016 12:00 am Milk output continues to fall, both domestically and globally. Deliveries in September were almost 10% lower than the same month last year, and were below the 5-year average. Cumulatively, output for the milk year is now over 6% down compared to 2015/16. Based on the results from its Farmer Intentions Survey AHDB Dairy has forecast a production profile for the 2017/18 year. Despite overall output being higher than the current year, it will still come in 3% lower than 2015/16. At the global level, the latest USDA data shows that, of the five major milk exporting regions only the US is producing more milk than at this time last year. Production in New Zealand, the EU, Australia and Argentina is all lower. The latest figures for Australia, for example, shows output is 10% down year-on-year.
