Liz Truss New DEFRA Secretary July 15, 2014 12:00 am Liz Truss, the MP for South West Norfolk, has replaced Owen Paterson as Secretary of State at DEFRA. The change comes as part of a wide-ranging Cabinet reshuffle ahead of next year’s election. Ms Truss had been a junior Minister in the Department of Education since 2012. She has secured rapid promotion, only entering Parliament in 2010 and will be the youngest Cabinet member at 38. As MP for a rural constituency, it is hoped she will have a good grasp of farming issues. Any changes in the ranks of junior DEFRA Ministers have not yet been announced.
