Growth in Organic Market March 23, 2016 12:00 am The latest Organic Market Report, published by the Soil Association, shows the sector continues to make steady growth. In 2015 the UK organic market grew by 4.9% to £1.95 billion. This is the third consecutive rise and the sector is getting back to levels seen before the recession. Organic now has a 1.4% share of the food and drink market. Independent retailers and box schemes have both performed well benefiting from a change in consumer habitats, moving towards independent retailers. Product sales for independent retailers increased by 7.5% and box and online schemes by 9.1%. There has also been a significant increase in organic products used by the catering sector, up by 15.2% and more than £9m is now spent on organic food through the Soil Association Catering Mark and increase of 28.5%.
