Growers Unite to Reject Sugar Deal

The NFU is to carry on negotiating for a better sugar beet price.  That was the result of the meeting held at the East of England Showground between the NFU and sugar beet growers on Tuesday 18th June.  The NFU said the meeting had given it ‘a clear mandate to keep negotiating for a better, fairer price’.  The meeting was held after the NFU rejected British Sugar’s offer for 2014 of £30.67, announced a week earlier at the Cereals Event, pending the growers meeting.

The NFU has said it will now enter ‘phase two of negotiations’ with British Sugar.  Growers have agreed to send their contract details and pledges on to NFU Sugar to demonstrate to the processor how united they are in pushing for a higher price.
