Glyphosate Extension

June 29, 2016 12:00 am

The European Commission has given the go ahead to extend the current licence for Glyphosate for a further 18 months.  The move comes after Member States failed to obtain a qualified majority, meaning the decision reverts back to the Commission.  The current licence was due to run out on the 30th June; the Commission’s decision is expected to be ‘fast-tracked’ through.  The temporary extension allows time for the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) to deliver its opinion on the possible health risks of the common herbicide, this is expected by the end of 2017.
