First Milk Lose Asda Contract

First Milk has announced that it has lost its 20,000 tonne cheese contract to Arla Milk Link as from spring 2014.  The change in supplier had been expected for some time and probably won’t have come as a surprise to many.  But the loss of contract has led First Milk to announce it will closing its cheese packing plant at Maelor near Wrexham next spring.  The Asda contract accounts for more than half of the throughput at the packing facility.  The plant employs 231 staff, which are expected to be affected by the closure.
