According to the latest Survey ‘Farm Managers in 2014′ from the Institute of Agricultural Management (IAgrM) farm managers are earning an average of £53,000 per year.  On top of this, two thirds also receive other non-cash benefits, such as rent-free housing worth an estimated £12,600.  But even so, this is not attracting young blood into the profession.  Only 14% of the managers surveyed were under 40 years old, compared to 63% back in 1969.  Just 33% had less than 15 years of experience in management compared to 66% in 1997.  One hundred managers took part in the survey, which also revealed 70% were either employed by private individuals or family trusts; those working for a land management company fell slightly to 11%.  Of those surveyed a third were graduates whilst the remainder had a diploma or some other formal qualification.
