Farm Commissioner May 22, 2014 12:00 am EU Farm Commissioner Dacian Ciolos has hinted he would like to serve a second term in office. But before this can happen he must persuade the new members of the European Parliament he is the man for the job and more importantly get the support of his national government. The Romanian administration has said it will nominate Ciolos for a post in the next Commission College as long as he gets either agriculture, regional policy or development. If he does not get one of these posts it appears he will not be returning. Although not as flamboyant a character as some of his predecessors, he did manage to negotiate a CAP deal, when for the first time, European Parliament had co-decision making powers. However, if Ciolos did serve a further term then we should perhaps not expect any radical change of direction in CAP policy when the next round of reform starts in 2018-19.
