The European Commission has suspended its €125m emergency aid fund, which was set up to help perishable fruit and vegetable growers who have been affected by the Russian embargo.  It comes amid fears that some farmers were abusing the system.  Total claims submitted for some products were several times higher than the total average EU annual exports to Russia.  A more targeted scheme will be developed in the near future.
