EU / Canada Trade Deal

September 27, 2016 12:00 am

The trade deal between the EU and Canada has taken a step forward after two thirds of Germany’s Socialist party has said they would back the deal.  The move is now  expected to pave the way for approval from Member States when they meet next month, with the EU expecting to sign the deal on 27th October.  There have been protests across Germany, citing the same concerns as the EU and US deal (TTIP) over the environment and food safety.  But members from the Socialist party have backed their leader and Economy Minister who says the deal is vastly different to the US one.  The Canadian deal is seen by many as a model for the UK to follow post-Brexit.
