Environment Secretary Calls for CAP Changes July 27, 2015 12:00 am The Environment Secretary has called for a number of changes to the CAP including; More flexibility for Member States to adopt EU guidance to suit national circumstances Allow more forms of evidence e.g. satellite images to check farmers are meeting requirements Simpler and a reduced number of inspections Scrap crop diversification under Greening More pragmatic approach to inspections. Commissioner Hogan is expected to set out the next set of simplification proposals of the Common Agricultural Policy in the autumn. Although in theory this all sounds good any changes to the CAP invariably take a long time to discuss and approve. There have been a number of attempts to ‘cut red tape’ within agriculture and doubts remain whether this attempt will have any real impact.
