DEFRA Budget Cuts

November 19, 2015 12:00 am

It seems likely that DEFRA’s budget will reduce by over a quarter in the next four years.  Precise details will be announced in the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement on the 22nd November.  However, it is reported that the Treasury has reached agreement with a number of Departments on reductions.  DEFRA was in a group of four which collectively have agreed cuts averaging 30%.  What this may mean for the services provided by DEFRA is, as yet, unclear.  The Department has already seen its funding reduce by around a quarter since 2010.  Presumably therefore, most of the easy or less painful cuts have already been made, and the latest round are far more likely to result in changes on the ground.
