Dairy Rationalisation August 12, 2013 12:00 am Arla has announced proposals to close its Ashby-de-la-Zouch dairy in Leicestershire dairy. The site closure could result in the loss of up to 370 jobs, subject to consultation. It is intended that raw milk will transfer from the site over a phased period, standing in October 2013 until the proposed closure date in April 2014. Milk from supplying farms will be diverted to other Arla sites, almost certainly the new 1bn litre ‘super-dairy’ at Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire. Other rationalisations are expected in Arla sites with the future of Oakthorpe and Hatfield Peverell looking uncertain. Meanwhile, Muller Wiseman are to close two Scottish depots at Keith and Whitburn by the end of the year. Again, distribution will be transferred to other sites owned by the business.
