Dairy Industry Strategy December 19, 2013 12:00 am The NFU, Dairy UK and AHDB DairyCo have presented a draft dairy industry strategy to the Government. “Leading The Way” aims to eliminate the UK dairy trade deficit value by 2025. The three organisations involved want to encourage a growing and thriving industry through this strategy. The strategy is based around the three pillars of sustainability and have action plans for each one. Economic Increase Britain’s share of domestic and international markets. Improve competitiveness and exploit market opportunities. Build a supply chain relationships based on trust, collaboration and partnership. Social Produce safe and nutritious food. Improve animal health and welfare standards. Communicate a positive image of the industry to the public. Environmental Strive for sustainable use of natural resources and reduce the environmental footprint. Enhance biodiversity and the social and amenity value of the landscape. The strategy appears ambitious and will require a somewhat isolated industry to become more open to working together. It therefore needs industry-wide buy-in. Curiously however, the document does not appear to be available to download.
