Dairy Aid Payments

November 17, 2015 12:00 am

The RPA has announced it has started making the aid payments due as part of the EU dairy support package (see September’s article /generalpolicy/crisis-aid-allocated/).  These commenced as of 16th November.  The RPA is making all the payments to dairy producers in England and to dairy farmers in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland on behalf of the devolved administrations.  The first tranche amounts to nearly £19.2m out of a total of £26.6m secured for the UK.  This will go to around three-quarters of the dairy farmers across the UK.   Payments, which have commenced two weeks earlier than scheduled, will continue through November and December.

The payment will based on producer’s milk production in 2014-15.  In England, Wales and Scotland it will be worth just under 0.176p per litre.  In Northern Ireland producers will receive just under 0.226p per litre; this higher payment is because farmers in Northern Ireland have been receiving some of the lowest prices across Europe.
