The application window for the 2013 Catchment Sensitive Farming Grant Scheme runs from 1st March to 30th April 2013.  The scheme, which began seven years ago, provides grants for carrying out practical works on farms which will reduce pollution from agricultural activities and increase the health of England’s waterways.

The budget for this year’s scheme is £15.5 million and is available to businesses within the 79 Priority Catchment areas.  Grants of up to a maximum of £10,000 per holding can be applied for with 50% of the cost of agreed capital works being made through the scheme.  Funding is competitive and priority will be given to applications which best meet the schemes objectives, are within target areas and provide the greatest environmental benefits.

Works that are eligible include;

  • Installing water troughs
  • Managing pesticides to reduce groundwater impacts
  • Covering manure and silage stores
  • Fencing livestock away from streams

More information is available from the Natural England website at http://www.naturalengland.org.uk/about_us/news/2013/050213.aspx  This includes details of the location of the 79 Priority Catchments.
