Countryside Stewardship Update July 30, 2015 12:00 am The Countryside Stewardship Application window closes in 2 months time and much remains unknown. A further update to the guidance is expected in the first week of August although the decision on dual-use is unlikely to be announced until later. This is of particular concern to those wanting to apply in dual-use situations (tenant claiming BPS and landlord applying for CSS). Natural England have already relaxed some deadlines, SSSI consents or evidence to confirm organic certification must be completed by 15th December 2015; the deadline for signed agreements to be returned. Unlike BPS it is not expected that the application deadline will be extended. This is due to the need for application to be scored, ranked and then agreements offered and accepted. Natural England have so far sent out around 2,000 application packs, by the 30th September deadline they are expecting 8,000 applications with around half being offered an agreement. Those applications which score highly on the priorities but cost the least money , i.e. provide value for money, are more likely to be offered an agreement.
