CAPIS Registration update December 11, 2014 12:00 am The registration roll out to Agents of the new CAPIS claims system has now begun in earnest. Some readers will have already been ‘invited’ to join. For the online verification system users will need; Both passport and photocard driving licence To be prepared to make up usernames and passwords Answer 4 security questions, which will be used if you ever need to phone up the verification company – colour of first car, place born etc For extra security to be prepared to answer questions about their credit card(s) i.e the provider, balance for a certain month and amount paid Their mobile phone PI or SBI number But it appears the CAP Delivery team has realised the online verification process is becoming a major problem and alternatives are being put in place. The RPA has always said nobody will be ‘frozen out’ from CAPIS, and it has been developing an alternative route for those that are encountering problems going through GOV.UK Verify. Initially this was going to be offered to a customer if they ‘failed’ the digital route. However, those on the trials have reported significant problems with the verification process (to be fair to the RPA, this is not really part of CAPIS, merely the gateway to it). It now appears that the alternative route, of phoning the RPA and going through some security questions, is going to be offered at the outset alongside the digital verification route. This method will only be available to those who are already registered with the RPA (have a PI or SBI number) and will be based on information held on the Customer Register rather than passports, photocard driving licence, bank statements and credit card information. Those who are not registered will need to contact Customer Service and choose Option 6. For those who are registered they will be asked their PI or SBI number and their security questions – memorable date, event and place. They will also need an e-mail address. Once through this process they will be given a CRN number by the telephone operator and an e-mail will be received from the RPA (note this often goes to ‘junk’), this will contain a six digit code. If customers follow the link on the e-mail these numbers numbers will be required. A password will need to be set up. The six digit code needs to be activated within 12 hours. It is the CRN number which agents will need to give to their clients in order to empower them. It appears for many the telephone route maybe the simplest at present, but the online verification process may still be required in the future to be able to use other GOV.UK systems i.e to file VAT returns. Meanwhile, a second verification company has joined GOV.UK Verify. Digidentity has joined, so users now have the choice of using either Experian or Digidentity (or the alternative route above). The aim is to have another three verification companies available for users; Mydex, The Post Office and Verizon.
