‘Buy British’ Food Plan July 21, 2014 12:00 am The Government has produced a new set of procurement rules designed to boost the proportion of food bought from domestic sources. Launched by the Prime Minister and the recently-installed DEFRA Secretary Liz Truss at the Royal Welsh Show, the new food and drink buying standards are designed to prioritise fresh, locally sourced, and seasonal food. Smaller suppliers are also meant to be favoured. It is hoped that these measures will see more British food being used in the canteens and restaurants of central government.
