British Sugar is looking for new beet growers.  They will be offered a one year contract at £22 per tonne for the 2017/18 crop.  But similar to existing growers, they will be able to take advantage of a bonus if  the EU sugar price, averaged over the course of the marketing year, is above €475 per tonne.  Our article of 15th July reports on this arrangement introduced for the next growing season; new growers however, will not be able to take advantage of the three year contract.  New contracts are expected to be for a minimum of 500 tonnes with a transport allowance for those within 60 miles of one of British Sugar’s four factories.
