BPEX Launch New Strategy

May 19, 2014 12:00 am

BPEX launched its new five year strategy at the Pig and Poultry Fair held in May.  The body acknowledges that the English pig industry has been through a turbulent time over the last five years, but is currently experiencing a more ‘settled financial environment’ allowing the Board to look into ways of taking the sector to the ‘next level’.  The main aim of the strategy is to grow the market whilst getting production costs down to the same level as our competitors.

Central to the strategy, Going for Growth, is BPEX’s five priorities;

  • Closing the gap on competitors – narrowing the technical performance gap, particularly in breeding herd performance, between English pig producers and the UK’s main competitors
  • Protecting the Environment – helping pig producers and processors comply with existing and emerging environmental legislation
  • Enhancing Pig Welfare – helping pig producers and processors comply with existing and emerging legislation and achieve recognition for the progress made
  • Encouraging safe and traceable pork – assist the industry in producing pork that continues to be safe and which consumers can have confidence is fully traceable from farm to fork
  • Helping to sell more pork – stimulating demand for pork through educating and communicating the benefits of pork and securing and developing export opportunities
