Bovine TB Consulation

June 24, 2014 12:00 am

DEFRA has launched a consultation proposing measures to further strengthen bovine TB controls.  Views are being sought on;

  • Removing the pre-movement testing exemption for animals moving within a Sole Occupancy Authority (SOA) where all the sites have the the same testing interval.  (Those with an SOA which has premises with different testing intervals already have to pre-movement test).  The AHVLA would be able to licence movements without pre-movement tests where all the premises included in the SOA are within 10 miles of the main holding.
  • Making it mandatory (currently voluntary) for vendors to give the animal’s TB history, i.e. date of animals last pre-movement test (if applicable), date of last whole herd test, whether the herd as ever had a TB breakdown, if yes when did it come out of restrictions?
  • Compulsory post-movement test for animals being brought onto holdings in the Low Risk Area of England from annual testing areas in England and Wales (this is already carried out in Scotland)

The consultation closes on 11th July.  Views are being sought via an online survey, for more information go to https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/bovine-tb-cattle-control-measures-tackling-cattle-to-cattle-transmission
