BNG for NSIPS July 28, 2025 1:57 pm The requirement to use the statutory biodiversity metric for Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs) has been delayed until May 2026. The statutory biodiversity metric measures how many units a habitat contains before development takes place and how many units are needed to replace the units of habitat lost and to achieve 10% Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), through the creation or enhancement of habitat. BNG is the requirement for development in England to deliver a 10% increase in biodiversity.
