Beet Levy Repayments

November 19, 2013 12:00 am

British Sugar is currently repaying growers for levies which have been incorrectly charged to them.  This stems from a European Court of Justice ruling back in 2012 (see http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=CELEX:62010CJ0113:EN:NOT ).   Basically the RPA overcharged British Sugar, and therefore indirectly beet growers via levies collected in the 2001/02 to 2005/06 marketing years.  This is now being paid back (with interest) to those growers who delivered beet in those years.  British Sugar is distributing some £13.4m.
