Beet Harvest and Contract December 21, 2015 12:00 am At the halfway point of the campaign, British Sugar (BS) has released details so far for the 2015 crop. Both yields and sugar contents look strong – the unseasonably mild weather has seen the crop continue to grow during the autumn and early winter. Average yields for the four factories range from 68-78 tonnes per hectare. Sugar contents are well over 17% at all the sites. BS has indicated that additional contract tonnage is available for the 2016 crop. This applies to those who wish to reduce the amount they previously decided to ‘holiday’ and those who wish to grow more than their usual contract tonnage. The price paid will be the standard £20.30 per tonne. Area Managers should be contacted for details.
