Arla’s giant new dairy unit near Aylesbury is due to start production in the last week of October.  As long as it is given the green light from Environmental Health Officers the UK’s most expensive dairy plant will start production with 200 staff and at a capacity of 650 million litres.  But the number of staff is expected to rise quickly to around 400 and the capacity to reach 1 billion litres within 9 months.  There is already planning permission in place to raise the milk intake to 1.3 billion litres.  The plant, which is also the biggest in the UK, has room for 75 tankers and can receive around 1.7 million litres per day.  Asda will be its first customer, supplying the supermarket with more than 500 million litres of milk a year.
