Arla Milk Price Drops

April 25, 2014 12:00 am

Arla is to cut its co-op milk price by 1.27ppl.  This is a result of a fall in the Arla amba EU-wide milk price by €1.5 cents.  The cut is effective from the 28th April and is a result of the fall in global commodity markets for milk over the past couple of months.  The latest Fonterra auction price has fallen to $4,047 per tonne.  This is almost 20% down from its peak in early February.

The big question is now what effect this cut will have on other milk purchasers in the UK market.  It would be surprising if other farmgate price cuts do not follow.
