Another Welsh BPS Challenge

September 18, 2015 12:00 am

The Welsh Government faces another legal challenge to its BPS system.  This time a group of lowland farmers are set to test the legality of the single-region model chosen.  The system creates significant redistribution of support with many intensive lowland farms facing massive drops in support.  A ‘pre-action’ letter has been sent to the Welsh Government.  A Judicial Review was instigated by hill farmers last year which resulted in the original three-region model being scrapped (see Dec 2014 article).  It is not clear what implications, if any, this might have on the payment of 2015 BPS.
