Flood Measures Scotland January 14, 2016 12:00 am The Scottish Government have announced a number of measures to help those affected by the recent flooding. They key measures are; where farmers feel the floods will impact their ability to meet Greening rules for the 2016 BPS year, they can seek relief from the rules by writing to the local area office within 15 days. A £1m fund has been established for the Flood Bank Restoration Scheme; businesses within 9 local authorities can apply for up to £20,000. There will be no land-based cross-compliance inspections started for those currently affected by the flooding. It is likely that some of the flood affected areas will lose their current winter crop and an increase in spring plantings could be seen. However with grain prices at their current levels and mounting costs of production (if redrilling) some may be tempted to leave areas fallow for this year.
