2012 Vegetable and Fruit Production

Within the UK, fruit and vegetables covered 148,000 hectares in 2012.  According to ‘Basic UK Horticultural Statistics 2013’ the total vegetable area decreased by 2% in 2012, whilst the fruit area remained unchanged.  However reduction is yields saw overall quantity of vegetables produced down by 4% to 2,486 thousand tonnes.  Fruit saw a 14% drop in total production between 2011 and 2012.  The full report, including breakdowns by crop, and datasets going back a number of  years can be found at –  https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/department-for-environment-food-rural-affairs/series/horticultural-statistics
